Chiefs, SuperSport officially out of the ‘title race’

Soweto giant Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United are now officially out of the 2016/17 Absa Premiership title race.

This follows Mamelodi Sundown 2:0 away win to Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits home win against the Durban side Maritzburg United on Sunday in Johannesburg.

Kaizer Chiefs are sitting comfortably at position four on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) log standing with 47-points from 27-games following a heartbreaking draw against Golden Arrows. Meanwhile Supersport United are sitting on position five with 47-points.

There is nothing left for both Matsatsantsa and Amakhosi in this season unless Sundowns and Cape Town City drop all their remaining points and they win all their remaining games.

As it stands the league title will be contested between Mamelodi Sundowns (54-points), Bidvest Wits (57-points) and Cape Town City (52 – points).

Wits need to only not to drop points to win their first Absa Premiership title since the inception of the PSL while Sundowns depends on Wits dropping points to defend the title.
