Debutant Lungi Ngidi fires Proteas to a Test Series win against India

The Proteas clinched the series when they beat India by 135 runs with almost two sessions to spare in the second Test at SuperSport Park on Wednesday to take a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

South Africa now have the chance to complete a clean sweep against the world’s No. 1 ranked team in the final match starting at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium next Wednesday. Thanks to “Man of the match” Lungi Ngidi.

Lungi Ngidi inspired Proteas on the fifth morning of the second Test at Centurion, winning by 135 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Ngidi (6/39) was the chief destroyer in the second innings, while Kagiso Rabada (3/47) took all of the other wickets barring a run-out.

Ngidi took 1/51 in India’s first innings, giving his match analysis of 7/90 on his debut.

Ngidi took four wickets on Wednesday morning, adding to the two he had already snapped up on Tuesday evening.

The 21-year-old debutant removed Virat Kohli on Tuesday on his home ground.

Cricket South Africa has congratulated the Standard Bank Proteas on winning the Sunfoil Freedom Test Series against India with a game to spare.
