Proteas batsman AB de Villiers has announced that he is fit and ready to get back on the field following his lengthy injury spell on the sidelines.
De Villiers was ruled out for approximately six months due to an elbow injury, which led him to miss the five-match one-day series and subsequently tour against Australia last year.
However, the 32-year-old has expressed his desire to win the 2019 Cricket World Cup along with the Proteas.
“I wanna do anything possible to get there. We haven’t lifted a trophy before. Yes, it’s important to play other formats but mentally and physically I wanna be in a good space come 2019 World Cup,” said De Villiers.
“Hopefully by then I would still be fit, and lift the trophy with the boys,” he added.
De Villiers also advised supporters to join the Proteas in their Pink Ball day match for breast cancer awareness at Bidvest Wanderers on February 4.
