New Ajax Cape Town signing Lebohang Mokoena says he can’t wait to get going in his new environment, where he hopes to inspire the young Ajax squad around him.
Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns forward Mokoena, who has spent 13 seasons in the PSL, joined Ajax in the off-season.
‘Cheeseboy’ has embraced the club’s culture of providing opportunities for young players, and is thrilled to be part of the setup, hopeful he can contribute not only on match days, but in and around the Urban Warriors’ Ikamva training base.
“The clubs I come from are a lot different to Ajax Cape Town, but for me it’s really nice to have a feeling of being in a different environment.
“The team is full of youth, the club’s own youth players, that is very good to see. It’s important for us to share our experience with these younger guys. Some of them will also move to other clubs or abroad so we have to share as much as we can. I can’t wait to get the ball rolling and play again,” he told the club’s website.
“Being here takes me back to the days when I was a young player. I also come from a youth structure, so to see the facilities that the team has got available for the youth is overwhelming.
“It shows the effort that the club is putting in to nurture talent. This helps the club not to go into the market too much and it also helps the team stay in the direction that they want to go,”
“If you’ve got your youth system in place like Ajax Cape Town has, you’ll have players coming through for generations to come,” added Mokoena.
